The future of medicine will be built by humans and machines working as one. I study how that partnership performs, breaks down, and can be made resilient — in emergency departments, operating rooms, robotic surgical suites, and the extreme isolation of deep space.
I am a PhD candidate in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, a registered nurse, nursing leader, academic lecturer, and researcher working at the intersection of human factors science, space medicine, and clinical system modeling. My central question is how humans — individually and in teams — interact with technology, maintain performance, make decisions, and manage error in environments that push them to their limits.
My clinical career spans from paramedic work in EMS to emergency nursing, operating room practice, and community nursing. I also serve as an active reserve medical officer in the military. This ground-level experience in high-acuity settings shapes everything I research: I am interested in how real clinical systems behave under pressure, not how they behave in theory.
Between 2015 and 2020, I served as a diplomat with the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, posted in Astana and Shanghai. That period deepened my interest in cross-cultural health systems, international emergency preparedness, and the epidemiology of mobile and migrating populations.
My particular research interest is in space exploration — specifically in medical robotics and automation in this extreme, isolated, and unforgiving environment. Long-duration missions, communication delays, severe resource constraints, and small, isolated crews create conditions in which system design and human performance decisions are literally life-or-death. Space is, in many ways, the ultimate laboratory for human factors research.
I write for both academic and general audiences, and I peer-review for Human Factors in Healthcare, Nursing Outlook, The American Journal of Emergency Medicine, and several other journals.
Alongside my research and writing, I work selectively with healthcare organizations, space agencies, and technology companies on applied problems in human factors, clinical system design, and performance in extreme environments.
Engagements typically involve human factors assessments, clinical system modelling, space medicine advisory, or workshops on decision-making and performance under the kinds of pressure that expose the edges of human capability.
